The 19th annual Women in Medicine & Science (WIMS) Research Day took place at the Health Sciences Center on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. The event, organized by the Office of Faculty Affairs at the 51 of Medicine at Stony Brook University and the Group for Women in Medicine and Science, was created to raise awareness of the issues that women have continued to face in medical training, healthcare, science and research, and to highlight the achievements of women in those fields. In addition to offering opportunities for community building, networking, mentoring and collaboration, the day's prevailing climate supporting various women’s movements made Women in Medicine & Science even more relevant and necessary for Stony Brook’s female community.

This year's invited speaker was , MD, MSc, Chief of the Neurology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, Director of the Sean M. Healey & AMG Center for ALS and Director and Julieanne Dorn Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School.Dr. Cudkowicz gave a presentation entitled "ALS: 2025 – New Insights in Biology and Treatments" (which attendees could watch in person or via Zoom) and participated in a group panel discussion on the topic of "Connecting and Supporting." The event also featured short talks from finalists who submitted abstracts celebrating research, new discoveries, and achievements in medicine and science, and included a session in which attendees voted on the best poster in each category. The complete program agenda is listed below.
